AIRO supports next generation of Orthopaedic Surgeon Scientists
Doctor of Philosophy
Curtin University
At the Australian Institute of Robotic Orthopaedics (AIRO), we believe that the more our people succeed, the more our company will succeed in bringing real change to the world.
Which is why we’re so proud to announce that local surgeon scientist and orthopaedic training registrar Dr Rajitha Gunaratne has been awarded his PhD for his work with AIRO. Raj’s thesis entitled ‘Laser Osteotomy And Optical Sensing For Advanced Robotic Joint Tissue Surgery’ was awarded the honour recently by the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Curtin University.
“This is great news” said Director and AIRO Co-founder Professor Daniel Fick, “Raj’s doctoral thesis was part of a larger project with AIRO, to explore how a robot-assisted joint replacement surgical system could distinguish between different tissue types; for example, different types of bone from different types of soft tissue.”
Raj’s project appeared in the following peer reviewed publications:
Everyone at AIRO congratulates Raj on attaining his PhD. We also send a note of acknowledgement and thanks to Professor Charlie Ironside at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Curtin University for his guidance as lead PhD supervisor.Media Enquiries
