AIRO finds and nurtures our MedTech leaders of tomorrow
The Australian Institute of Robotic Orthopaedics (AIRO) has always been passionate about helping Australia become a world leader in the hugely important fields of Medical Technology and Pharmaceutics (MTP).
So we’re excited to announce that the next batch of top local talent is being cultivated in the 2022 AIRO Intern Program. Lead by Chief Technology Officer, Mr Richard Chipper, the AIRO Intern Program is designed to up-skill university students who have high potential in the fields of mathematics, physics, engineering, and computer science. The initiative immerses them in the development of medical devices, in an environment that is both technically advanced and commercially focused (the critical yin and yang of truly successful MedTech programs).
“The vision for the AIRO Intern Program is to foster the skills that will enhance Australia’s capacity and capability in the rapidly emerging hi-tech and medical industries.” Mr Chipper said. “Ultimately, it’s our country’s global competitiveness that we’re seeking to advance. Which is why our intern training is so comprehensive, involving new technologies and methodologies, rapid prototyping and medical device documentation (including ISO 13485). Of course, we also want to develop WA’s knowledge in these new areas too, and help create a highly skilled local MTP workforce.”
The 2022 AIRO Internships have been awarded to:
Masters of Professional Engineering
Biomedical Engineering
UWA
BPhil (Hons)
Physics and Mathematics
UWA
Mechatronic Engineering and Computer Science
Curtin University
The AIRO Intern Program is already bearing fruit. 2021 intern Mr Evan Savigni (Masters of Professional Engineering - Biomedical Engineering, UWA) recently secured a position as Graduate Product Engineer with local company OncoRes Medical[1]. Congratulations Evan!
